DEPARTMENTAL NOTICES: Prior to registering for their first course in French at Washington University, students should take the placement test, available at https://asapps.artsci.wustl.edu/flpe/. Unless otherwise indicated, classes are conducted in French. The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures sponsors two year-abroad programs in France: 1) Toulouse (with Dickinson College) and 2) Paris (with Sweet Briar College). In order to participate in the junior year abroad in Toulouse or Paris, France, STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE FRENCH 318 AND EITHER FRENCH 325 OR FRENCH 326. (French 307 is a prerequisite for French 318; for students participating in a junior year abroad program, French 318 replaces French 308.) Both 400-level literature courses required for the major must be taken at Washington University. The 500-level courses are open only to graduate students.
