M80 Other 823Anatomy of Health - Community Navigator0.0 Unit
Description:Four weeks of elective credit is awarded to students for this experience Two weeks will include formal in-class work, and the other two weeks will have flexibility to be scheduled into your calendar schedule but can be completed over the next 3 months. Additional information about the flexible portion of the schedule will be provided to students by the course director. This course WILL be available to select at Pit Night. Are you interested in community engagement as an elective opportunity? The Anatomy of Health is a four week elective course structured to give skills and experience in local community engagement. It requires two weeks of scheduled community engagement learning pre-requisites to occur August 2-13th, 2021. This course work includes a focus on social and structural determinants of health, principles of community engagement and a review of Community Health Needs Assessment and the Community Health Improvement Plan for St. Louis. After this experience you would have the next three months (August - January 2021) to collaborate with a faculty "champion" working with a small group of Phase 1 students to provide insight and "navigation" through scheduled community based collaborations and activities, classroom work and direct mentoring to guide these early medical students in their own understanding of community health needs and engagement. If interested, you will need to set up a brief meeting with Audrey Coolman and Kaytlin Reedy-Rogier to provide insight to why you are interested.

Home/Ident

A course may be either a “Home” course or an “Ident” course.

A “Home” course is a course that is created, maintained and “owned” by one academic department (aka the “Home” department). The “Home” department is primarily responsible for the decision making and logistical support for the course and instructor.

An “Ident” course is the exact same course as the “Home” (i.e. same instructor, same class time, etc), but is simply being offered to students through another department for purposes of registering under a different department and course number.

Students should, whenever possible, register for their courses under the department number toward which they intend to count the course. For example, an AFAS major should register for the course "Africa: Peoples and Cultures" under its Ident number, L90 306B, whereas an Anthropology major should register for the same course under its Home number, L48 306B.
