B63 MGT 501BOlin/United Way Board Fellows Program1.5 Units
Description:Step into leadership and drive social change - The Olin/United Way Board Fellows program, through the Center for Experiential Learning, offers you a unique opportunity to serve as a voting board member for a Greater St. Louis Area United Way Agency, directly impacting your community. Through this year-long immersive experience, you will collaborate with nonprofit leaders to address key social issues affecting underserved groups, including the elderly, children, differently-abled, or other underserved groups. As you contribute to meaningful projects, you will develop governance skills, navigate complex challenges, and shape the future of organizations dedicated to making a difference. This program is your chance to grow as a responsible leader while building lasting relationships and contributing to the greater good. Approximately 20 students are selected each year and matched with one of their preferred United Way Agencies. You will serve as a voting board member while addressing your agency's critical social challenges. You'll also connect with your agency over the summer, either in person or remotely. Much of the work will occur in the latter half of the spring semester, summer, and early fall before culminating the course with a final presentation to the agency client and the class. Typical problems to be addressed include issues impacting underserved populations, such as the elderly, children, formerly incarcerated individuals, and those with disabilities. You will develop key skills in governance, leadership, navigating uncertainty, problem-solving, and client communication. The class meets 4-5 times both in Spring and Fall. Most of your time will be spent independently working with your assigned agency throughout the calendar year, including at least one summer check-in. Open to FTMBA, FlexMBA, PTMBA, EMBA, Brown School, and Law School students. Application must be completed by Monday, Oct 28th to be considered for selection. Application link: htt

Home/Ident

A course may be either a “Home” course or an “Ident” course.

A “Home” course is a course that is created, maintained and “owned” by one academic department (aka the “Home” department). The “Home” department is primarily responsible for the decision making and logistical support for the course and instructor.

An “Ident” course is the exact same course as the “Home” (i.e. same instructor, same class time, etc), but is simply being offered to students through another department for purposes of registering under a different department and course number.

Students should, whenever possible, register for their courses under the department number toward which they intend to count the course. For example, an AFAS major should register for the course "Africa: Peoples and Cultures" under its Ident number, L90 306B, whereas an Anthropology major should register for the same course under its Home number, L48 306B.
